Guide To Liposuction

Liposuction, liposculpture suction lipectomy, or fat modeling and suction, is a cosmetic surgery that involves removing excess fat from various parts of the body. These areas include the abdomen, buttocks and thighs, neck, arms and wherever where there may be excess fat. The procedure can also be carried out for people who do not have too much fat, but instead want to sculpt their bodies. The sculpting process in the liposuction procedure gives the appearance of having lost much more that is actually reduced.

Depending on the case, the patient may be put under general, local or regional anesthesia. A major deciding factor in the amount of fat to be removed is the health of the patient, since removing large volume of fat can prove to be complicated and potentially, life threatening. Here, as per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the term large refer to a volume of greater than 5 liters.

Candidacy for the procedure

Liposuction is not carried out on everyone. There are set parameters that need to be met for the procedure to be carried out.

• Candidate should be over 18 years of age,

• Candidate must also be in good health, generally,

• Candidate should be following a set diet and exercise routine,

• Candidate should have a few fatty pockets,

• Candidate should be disease free, esp. diseases like diabetes, heart and circulatory problems,

The results are not as drastic or dramatic for older people since their skin is less elastic.

Liposuction is not carried out for candidates who are undergoing tummy tuck procedure, due to high risk of complications

Challenges in the procedure

The most common challenges faced by practitioners are:

• Deciding and removing just the right volume of fat.

• Not disturbing neighboring tissues including connective tissue and blood vessels.

• Maintaining the patient's fluid balance.

• Reduce discomfort for the patient.

With modern advances in technology and technique, these challenges have been overcome and the process is much safer, comfortable, and effective now.

Mechanism Of Liposuction

Liposuction can be done using the below mentioned methods:

1. Suction-assisted liposuction (SAL): The standard method, this involves the insertion of a small cannula (straw) through an incision. This cannula is linked to a vacuum suction device which sucks up the fat as guided by the surgeon.

2. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL): Ultrasonic or ultrasound assisted liposuction involves the transmission of ultrasound vibrations to burst the fat cell walls, thus emulsifying the fat. This smoothens the process of suction. This method is most preferred for high fiber areas such as upper back or male chest area. The ultrasonic vibrations are followed by suction assisted liposuction.

3. Power-assisted liposuction (PAL): Similar to the suction assisted, liposuction technique, this involves using a machine to guide the cannula instead of the surgeon.

4. Twin-cannula liposuction (TCAL or TCL): This method involves using a specialized tube-inside tube cannula pair. This is a much smoother procedure, with the highly specialized mechanism eliminating possibilities of friction burns and the need to put too much force in moving the cannula.

These are the surgical and the non surgical. The non-surgical methods are typically known as prosthetics. The surgical methods are of two types. One is FUT and alternate is FUE. Both systems have points of interest and hindrances.

FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation: This method includes concentrating out a slim segment of hair along the skin from the contributor region. The benefactor hair is for the most part taken from the once again of the head / scalp. They are hereditarily impervious to hair fall. They are analyzed, under a magnifying lens, into follicular units or unions. This is then transplanted on the fancied region which is known as the beneficier zone. The transplanted hair starts developing typically following four months

FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction: In this method individual follicular units are concentrated and transplanted on the coveted zone on the scalp ie, known as beneficiary region. This surgery does not have to make entry points on the scalp. Around the follicular unit a roundabout cut is made on the skin with the assistance of a 1 mm punch before it is concentrated. No scar shows up on the concentrated territory. It is suitable for the individuals who are vulnerable to donor scarring and likewise for the individuals who do not have sufficient laxity on scalp for experiencing the conventional FUT strip procedure.

The expense of hair restoration takes a stab at a whopping £ 2,000 for 500 grafts to £ 8,750 for 3500 grafts. It can go up rising upon the quiet's contributor hair thickness and well maintained thickness of the beneficiary territory. Mastopexy – Breast Lift Surgery

New plastic surgery statistics released 3/31/14 by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show that breast lift procedures are growing at twice the rate of breast implant surgeries. Since 2000, breast lifts have grown by 70 percent, increasing from 53,000 in 2000 to 90,000 in 2013 vs. only a 37% increase in breast augmentation surgery over the same time period. Breast implants are still by far the most performed cosmetic surgery in women, but lifts are steadily gaining. In 2013, 70% of these women were between the ages of 30 and 54.

At a young age the breast skin is taut and elastic and the ligaments holding the breast tissue to the chest wall are short and tight. With aging, exposure to gravity, weight changes and pregnancy the ligaments and skin are stretched and disrupted leading eventually to drooping sagging breasts, especially after breast evolution following pregnancy and breastfeeding feeding. Surgery to correct this drooping is termed a mastopexy or breast lift and involves surgery on the breast skin and / or deeper breast tissue. The pencil test is a simple way for a woman to assess if breast lift surgery could be beneficial. A pencil is placed under the breast. If the breast tissue holds the pencil in place against the chest that implies that there's a hanging nature to the breast that may be improved with a lift. In assessing these patients the surgeon needs to know the history of breast sizes with changes in weight or pregnancy, breast measurements (breast volume, amount of breast skin envelope filling, nipple position on the chest, distribution of breast tissue, skin quality and amount, areola size, amount of skin show below the nipple on standing and asymmetry / symmetry).

These patients want fuller upper breastoles with breast tissue completely above the breast crease and no skin scars. Many also do not want breast implants. This is clearly not possible but a variety of options with variable tradeoffs are available. Historically breast lifts were performed by only removing excess breast skin. This was associated with a high recurrence rate as the skin and scars stretched over time. In the 1990s Brazilian surgeons began to shape the breast tissue under the skin at the time of surgery in order to decrease these recurrence rates.

When designing the pattern of skin removal one of the surgeon's goals is to leave the patient with a round areola and no stray areola skin outside the confines of that round areola. The areola can be identified by tight suture closures after removal of the skin excess. Another goal is to increase the visible skin between breast fold and nipple when one is standing upright. This is particularly important in breast augmentation because only putting breastfeeding breast implants into someone without this skin show on standing will not result in a good appearance.

Breast lifts or mastopexies are frequently performed in conjunction with other breast procedures such as reconstruction after cancer surgery, breast augmentation and breast reduction with the removal of highly variable amounts of breast tissue. To improve symmetry different approaches are often employed for each breast.

SURGICAL OPTIONS

  • Crescent Mastopexy

Crescent Mastopexy is the removal of a crescent or half moon of skin anywhere along the edge of the areola on a portion of its circumference. The crescent can be only skin and / or can involve deeper tissues. The skin only type is mostly used to adjust nipple position at the time breast enhancement in order to improve breast symmetry. The crescent can be placed anywhere around the edge of the nipple complex so the nipple can be moved in any direction. If you place a breast implant without doing this asymmetry can be increased leading to an unhappy patient after surgery. The deeper tissue crescent removal is used to change the shape of the breast, to make a tuberous breast rounder. The deeper tissue removal can also be done with various patterns of skin removal to achieve the best result.

The main limitation to the procedure is areola distortion if the skin crescent width is too large. In most cases this limit is 1cm in width.

  • Circumareolar Mastopexy

This procedure involves the removal of a donut of skin around the areola so it is also called a donut mastopexy or Benelli mastopexy.

Some years ago these were done cutting out large donuts and freeing up the skin down to the breast crease and up to the collar bone. Patients liked this approach because they felt a scar around the areola would be less visible but these aggressive circumferential metopexies were associated with multiple problems. The limit of the procedure is the outer edge of the donut can not be more than 1.5 to 2 times the circumference of the inner donut. If you exceed these dimensions the breast mound is flattened, the areola is stretched over time to an abnormal size, the scar thickens and widens so it is more noticeable and the outer edge skin can bundle up creating a corrugated cardboard or pleated appearance.

To maintain areola shape over time many surgeons place a round purse string suture in the surrounding edge of skin. This suture can pull through the tissue, break or poke through the skin losing its ability to maintain the areola shape. In case reviews this type of lift is associated with the highest rate of revision surgery.

  • Vertical Mastopexy

Vertical mastopexy raises or lifts the nipple by removing an inverted triangle of skin between the nipple complex and the breast fold. When the triangle is closed the nipple is pushed upward.

The size of the triangle is limited by the tension of this lift to flatten the lower half of the breast with larger triangles.

  • Y-scar Vertical Mastopexy

If the nipple is in a good position and the majority of the excess skin is in the horizontal plane a horizontal crescent combined with a vertical ellipse removal of skin results in a Y-scar vertical mastopexy.

The main use of this lift is to minimize skin surface scarring and avoid a horizontal scar in the breast fold. This lift however will not fill the upper half of the breast and the amount of skin that can be removed is very limited.

  • Circumvertical Mastopexy – Lollipop Mastopexy

This approach combines a circumareolar with a vertical lift.

This is used most frequently in conjuction with breast enlargement in patients who do not have visible skin between the nipple complex and breast crease when standing. The lollipop lift removes an eccentric oval of skin around the nipple complex and the vertical limb of the lollipop ends somewhere between the nipple complex and the crease or in the crease itself, depending on the amount of nipple lifting required. The excursion around the nipple complex is subject to the same limitations as the circumareolar mastopexy. The nipple can not be lifted more than about 2 cm with this approach as the breast mound begins to distort with greater lifting.

  • Inverted T Mastopexy

The inverted T-mastopexy has been the work horse of breast lifts and breast reduction surgery for decades.

This skin removal pattern allows the removal of the greatest amount of skin with great amount of nipple lifting and gives the surgeon the greatest exposure to perform maneuvers on deeper breast tissue. The tradeoff is that it has the highest skin scar load of all the breast lift procedures.

This is the indicated method for breast lift surgery after large weight loss whether it is diet or weight loss surgery related and whether or not a breast implant is placed. Massive weight loss patients have severe breast tissue drooping and a lot of excess skin. This approach allows the removal of excess skin all the way to the sides of the torso.

This type of lift has the highest “bottoming out” rate compared to other types of lifts. Its occurrence is minimized by making the vertical limb of the T only 5 cm.

There are variations of this which result in L shaped skin closures / scars. They fall between inverted-T and vertical designs. Some surgeons like them but I have not found them to be useful in most cases due to the asymmetric removal of skin relative to the mid-breast axis.

  • Parenchymal Fixation, Redistribution, and Autouation Techniques

As mentioned above the recurrence rates due to skin and scar stretching and incomplete filling of the upper half of the breasts associated with skin only procedures has lead surgeons to lifting procedures with manipulation of the breast tissue deep to the skin. These include suture fixation of the breast tissue to chest muscles, cutting into and redistributing breast tissue, inserting prosthetic absorbable or non-absorbable meshes to hold and shape the breast tissue, injecting fat from other areas of the body and creating slings of denuded skin from the excess that is otherwise removed that are sutured deep in the breast to hold and lift the tissue (laser bra lift). There have been no controlled studies that prove the superiority of these techniques over skin only procedures. Many of these originated in Brazil and I saw them when I was training there but gave them up after a short trial in the US as I felt that long term they did not do anything other than add to operating room time and the expense of the surgery . Stitches between breast tissue and chest muscle unexpectedly pull through the fat. Tongues of breast tissue that are dissected out and passed under the breast mound can die and therefore only result in a smaller breast. Absorbable meshes dissolve and any utility they provided disappoints shortly thereafter.

Recognizing this problem with breast fat sutures some surgeons have advocated punching a hole in the muscle and passing a tongue of breast tissue from under and behind the muscle to on top of the muscle. This is supposed to circumvent the problem of sutures pulling out of the breast fat but introduces the possibility of breast distortion when the muscle is activated.

There are many different ways to perform a breastfeeding lift and even more minor variations of those ways. What is effective in one patient will not be so effective in another. If you see 10 different plastic surgeons you will get 10 different answers as to what type of breast lift should be performed. It is even more complicated if you place breast implants for enhancement at the same time. That is because the marks on the skin for surgery are made before the implants are placed and it can be very difficult to plan surgery accounting for skin stretch after the implants are in place. These combined procedure patients therefore have a high rate of redo or revision surgery even in the best of surgical hands.

My preferred lift procedures are crescent, circumareolar, lollipop and inverted T depending on an individual patient's needs. I have not found the others to be beneficial in my patient population.

Getting a Brazilian Butt Lift

Currently, one of the most popular cosmetic procedures, is the Fat Transfer Butt Augmentation, also known as the Brazilian Butt Lift.

Butts come in different sizes and shapes. Some people have never really felt comfortable about the look and feel of their own behinds and for others they are just fed up with the flattening and sagging that occurs with age. People have small butts, large ones, flat butts and even what appears to be no butt at all. Some of these rear ends respond to diet and exercise, becoming fuller and rounder as a result altered eating habits and time spent at the gym; most do not.

To get those round and voluptuous buttocks, more and more people are turning to cosmetic Surgery. The Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery lifts, enhancements and rounds the current butt without the use of implants.

In a sense, with the fat transfer procedure, you are looking at two or more cosmetic procedures being done at one time. In a Brazilian Butt Lift the surgeon extracts the patients own body fat from areas like the abdomen, thighs, arms or “love handles”. This step is what is known as liposuction.

After the patient's extra fat has been removed from one or more donor areas on their body, it is purified and processed for reinsertion into the buttocks area. This is where you need a truly artistic and skilled cosmetic surgeon. The fat is injected into different locations and depths of the gluteus to give the patient the right look, size and roundness.

The main concern with Fat Transfer Butt Augmentation is the survival of the transplanted fat. Approximately 50% to 60% of the fat survives the transfer. The rest of the fat dies off and gets reabsorbed into the body. Fat needs sufficient blood flow to live, so one of the aspects of transplant your surgeon pays attention to is placing the fat as close to muscle tissue as possible, where it can get this much needed blood. Many surgeons incorporated platelet rich plasma from the patient's own blood to increase the survival rate of the newly transplanted fat.

As with any surgery, you will have some swapping at the implant site and possibly some pain in both the donor areas of your body and the location where the transferred fat was injected (you butt).

But after all the adjustments your body will make and recovery from the surgery you will see a fuller, firmer, rounder and higher butt. And, do not forget, the donor areas where the fat was removed. These will be thinner and shapelier than ever!

Rhinoplasty: A Life Changing Operation

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as “nose job”, can be a truly life changing surgical procedure. The nose is one of the first physical things noticed about an individual. “As plain as the nose on your face” is a true and apt expression. A person with an overly large, small or misshapen nose can feel shy, introverted or just less himself or herself in a social situation. Instead of interacting freely with others, a person with the need for rhinoplasty, has their attention focused inward.

If you find yourself worried about how others view your nose or about how you, yourself feel when you look in the mirror, it may be a good time to talk to a rhinoplasty specialist.

Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping is the second most popular cosmetic procedure. (In case you're wondering, the first most popular is breast augmentation.)

Rhinoplasty is also one of the most complex and intricate types of plastic surgery. The procedure must be very exact; a slight difference of a matter of a millimeter or two could be the difference between a beautiful nose and a flawed result that needs to be redone. The skill it takes to perform this surgery is why it's so important to have a real specialist perform the operation.

Here are some common situations that can be corrected with rhinoplasty:

The tip of the nose is too wide or bulbous

The tip of the nose or the nose itself is asymmetrical or out of proportion

There is a noticeable hump on the nose bone

The nose is observably crooked

The nose has been broken in an accident

A nose that is too big for the face

An obstruction or structural problem is causing difficulty with breathing

Rhinoplasty can fix any of these undesired physical features or medical problems.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

The procedure for rhinoplasty surgery varies, depending on the exact steps to be performed. It can be done under general anesthesia or with a local anesthetic. The operation usually usually lasts for about three hours and involves intricate incisions and surgical work on the bones and cartilage of the nose.

Your doctor will discuss the exact procedure for your particular rhinoplasty surgery with you.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty Surgery

It's important to follow all your doctor's instructions after your surgery. In general, you will need to stay at home and get much rest; move as little as possible. Over the counter analgesics can usually take care of any pain you may experience after the operation.

A splint and bandages are applied to the nose and adjacent area immediately after the operation to protect the nose, minimize movement and aid in the healing process.

You should not smoke for several weeks following the surgery. Once the bandages have been removed, your nose will need to be shaded from the sun for the first several months to a year while your body heals and adjusts to the changes from the surgery.

If you live in Columbus, Ohio or the surrounding areas and find you have attention on your facial appearance or feel concern over the size or shape of your nose, come in and talk to Dr. Bivik Shah. As a top rhinoplasty specialist, Dr. Bivik Shah understands the importance of the nose to self-esteem and confidence and has the experience, training and knowledge to give you the best advice and great results. Do not trust this important feature and confidential operation to anyone who does not have Dr. Shah's qualifications.

Preparing for Surgery Abroad

Having surgery abroad is becoming more and more popular because plastic surgery is expensive in their country and people can not afford to pay the price for it.

It seems crazy that buying a return flight, a room in a hotel for the duration and then the cost of surgery all added together, is cheaper than paying for the surgery alone in home countries.

That is one of the reasons that the medical tourism industry is booming at the moment, and it will not be changing anytime soon. People just get better value for money when they have the surgery abroad. Furthermore, once they are cured, they can treat it like a little break and see the sights.

If you are thinking about having surgery abroad, then you might be a bit worried about what to expect and what you need to do when you are there. If this sounds like you, then read on for some information about the medical tourism industry.

What to expect?

When you arrive, there should be things that you are expecting and you are well within your rights to expect them. First of all, you will have an initial meeting with the surgeons when you arrive, so you know what is going to happen. They will not just whisk you into surgery when you have no idea what will happen.

In this meeting, they should give you information about the surgery and how long you should take to heal. They will also tell you how long you have to wait before you fly home.

They should also give you leaflets about the healing process, like how often you have to change your bandages, or things that you have to look out for in case you get an infection.

You should expect the hospital to be clean and sanitary, and for the surgeons to be qualified by the medical board. They should have their qualifications in a frame on the wall, and if they do not, you should ask to see them. They will not take offense if you ask, so do not worry.

When you arrive, you will probably be met by some nurses who will ask you some questions about your medical history. These nurses will be qualified nurses and the questions are so they can plan ahead incase there are any complications during the surgery.

What do you need to bring with you?

Depending on what surgery you have, you will need to bring some comfortable clothes with you. For example, if you are having a tummy tuck, then you will have an incision on your lower stomach and if you are wearing jeans then you will be in agony.

Therefore, bring loose clothing that will not rub on any incisions that you might have. You might think that this is a given but plenty of people turn up with tight fitting clothes and then having to stay in their hotel room because they can not wear anything.

You should also take someone with you because you will need help while you are recovering. This should be someone who you trust and are comfortable with because they will be helping you get dressed and washed, and they will be changing your bandages. You need to also trust that they will get you back to the hospital if anything goes wrong.

Do You Want to Have Sex Change Surgery?

There are people in this world who have never felt right in their own skin and they have always felt that there is something wrong with the way that they are feeling.

They feel that the gender that they were given when they were born was wrong somehow and it does not reflect who they are on the inside. This feeling can be very traumatic and they feel like they need to make a change so that they can live their lives happily.

This decision is not taken lightly and it is not like the person woke up that morning and decided that they wanted to change gender. It is something that they have probably struggled with since they were a very young age.

If they have come to the decision that they want to have the operation, then it is something that they need to do to be happier in their life and feel comfortable in their own body.

Where to have the operation?

Sometimes, having a sex change operation is not available on health care plans or in countries with an NHS. This is because the powers that be do not understand the impact of the operation on the patient.

They do not believe that it is necessary to live a healthy life, so they do not make it available to people. However, other countries have made it available, but at a price. This price is simply not affordable to most people.

Therefore, it is required for people to take advantage of the medical tourism industry. This is where people travel abroad and have the operation there. They are likely to stay in that country until they are fully cured and when they go home, they look and act like a new person.

If you know someone how wants to have the operation, you should know that even though they might look different, or act more outgoing, they are still the same person that you have always known.

You do not have to treat them any differently and it is important that you do not treat them like you do not know them. They are still the same person on the inside except now they feel better about themselves and they feel that their body accurately underestimates who they are on the inside.

Sexuality

Sometimes people are judged for having this operation because other people are unsure about their sexuality. First of all it is none of their business and second of all, why does sexuality matter in these cases?

Not all people who want to change their gender are gay. You might find that they have the same sexuality that they have always had, but now it looks different to you. If you feel this way, then you can talk to them about it, just do not be surprised if they tell you it is none of your business.

Operation

The operation can last anywhere between 4-8 hours depending on what procedures are done at the same time and the patient has to be over the age of 20. The patient also has to be considered to be in a physically healthy state.

There are other requirements for the surgery as well. Patients must have undergone 12 months of therapy to make sure it is the right decision for them, and they must have been living as their opposite gender for a long period of time, while having hormone therapy. These steps are to make sure that the patient does not regret the decision.

Plastic Surgery and Exercise

People who have weight problems sometimes need to look towards plastic surgery for an answer. This is not because plastic surgery makes people lose weight. It is because the body might need some changes once the weight has gone.

People who have drastic weight loss will need surgery to cut away excess skin. When this happens it is because they have lost a lot of weight in a short period of time, so the skin has not had time to tone back. Therefore, there is a lot of skin left over that used to be needed to cover the whole body.

In some countries, the surgery that is needed is not available on any health plan or government national health plan, so more and more people are looking abroad for the surgery options.

Some countries will have the surgery available on their private plans, but it will be very expensive and people will not be able to afford it. That is why they are looking into medical tourism as an answer.

Why did they lose weight?

If people do not lose weight for health reasons, then they probably want to lose weight for health reasons. If they had lost the weight over a long period time, then the skin would have toned and there would be no skin hanging from the body.

However, if people are losing weight because they want to feel better on the inside, then they will have probably been in a rush and they will have hanging skin.

It is such a shame for them to go through that massive change with all the hard work only for them to still feel bad about themselves because they hate the look of the hanging skin.

If they had been told to lose weight for their health, then they could argue that the health service told them to and there that they should pay to help them look better, because if not, then they will start eating unhealthily again just to fill in the space in the skin.

If you know a person who has lost weight and has suffered with the hanging skin, then they would tell you that they preferred their look when they were overweight, to their look with the excess skin.

Medical Tourism

So, more people are turning to medical tourism because they can afford the price of the surgery in other countries. They can afford a flight, a hotel and the price of the surgery because even when the costs are added together, it is still cheaper at home.

When some people hear about medical tourism as an option, they think that it is dodgy, against the law and the hospitals are unsanitary. However, this is a common misconception.

Medical Tourism is not against the law because you will be having the surgery in a hospital, performed by qualified surgeons. Furthermore, you will be in a clean hospital, which handles cosmetic surgery. A lot of the hospitals are cleaner than many NHS hospitals that are regulated by government.

This is primarily because they are private hospitals so they spend their money on top of the range facilities and only hire the best surgeons.

A lot of people will actually chose medical tourism even if they can afford the surgery at home because they know that they will get a better level of service and their surgery will be performed by better surgeons.

If you know someone who is having plastic surgery abroad, make sure they know that they might not be able to return home until they have healed.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Explained

Just imagine what will happen if you are able to modify the structure of your nose without needing any kind of surgery, scalpels, or normal anesthesia at a very affordable cost? It is very much possible today, thanks to a new, non surgical method.

Rhinoplasty without surgery is a non-invasive, safe option to conventional rhinoplasty which provides superb results with minimal or no pain & recovery period. It's also known as “15-minute nose job”, due to its fast & no downtime strategy.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a nose job that does not really change the shape of nose itself. This gets done with the injection of facial filler. The kind of filler which is used depends on the type of nose job you require or your medical condition. Just like their use to pump out wrinkles, they could fill up regions of the nose in order to correct small deformities.

Why should you select non surgical rhinoplasty?

Reasons for selecting non surgical rhinoplasty exist in large numbers, as indicated by its ever growing popularity. Surely, the fact that a normal anesthesia and a hospital visit are not needed sounds attractive; patients stay aware and awake, they are also able to communicate with staff and doctors. The treatment does not take a longer time, often taking less than 30 minutes, with negligible trouble-a local anesthetic is normally used. It does not include the uncertaintyy of nosebleeds, scarring, or swelling, as normal rhinoplasty does. A person may prefer to return to work on the same day depending upon their choice and start with his daily activities under 1 to 2 days. Another added bonus is that the output is immediately obvious so their is no bandages, no downtime, and no waiting. Such benefits with the fact that this type of non surgical rhinoplasty costs only 10% to 20% as compared to conventional surgical rhinoplasty together makes it attractive choice for many.

Drawbacks and Risks

Such type of non-surgical rhinoplasty may not be considered as a permanent solution. Like other types of filling techniques, touch-ups may be essential within 2 years. There is also a risk of redness, minimal bruising, as well as swelling. Non Surgical Rhinoplasty could not alter serious abnormalities, damaged / broken tissues, or deformities. Such type of issues may require to be addresses by traditional surgical rhinoplasty. It is always a better choice to visit you doctor in order to discover which option is appropriate for you.

Breast Augmentation – Making The Decision

Most people through the world have an issue relating to how their bodies look. Unfortunately, most body parts can not be rectified even with plastic surgery, but parts such as the breast, face, and neck can be adjusted. Breast augmentation happens to be the most common surgery procedure performed in the world. Women undergo this process for various reasons, and some of them are:

  • To rectify a previous surgery that did not satisfy them
  • To improve their self-confidence and image
  • To restore breast appearance after pregnancy and weight loss
  • After breast reconstruction to treat cancer

The bottom line here is that there are many benefits coming from breast augmentation. It is always advisable, though, to undergo the surgery if and only if the reasons for doing so are from within you. You do not want to breast augmentation because someone else asked to you because if you do not get satisfying results, you might not be able to manage them in the future.

What's more, breast augmentation comes with a number of side effects and risks. It is crucial to understand these risks and discuss them with your surgeon before the procedure. This will not only help in minimizing complications, but will also help you deal with them just in case they occur. Some of these risks and side effects include:

  • Capsular contracture – this occurs when the capsule tightens up, and squeezes the implant into a firm, ball like shape making the soft implants feel hard in your breasts.
  • Implant displacement – ie implants may move from their position especially if the body is rejecting them.
  • Hematoma – collection of blood in the body cavity
  • Seroma – collection of watery fluid around the incision or implant
  • Breasts asymmetry
  • Unfavorable scarring
  • Issues with breastfeeding
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infection
  • Necrosis – a dead tissue that prevails the wound from healing
  • Loss of nipple and breast tissue sensation
  • Rippling of the breasts
  • Rupture or breast leakage

With these risks in mind, you should be able to make a solid, final decision that is not determined by anyone else but you. Nonetheless, with the help of a certified and experienced surgeon, some of these risks should not be a threat.

How long will you take to recover? Well, this depends on your body's reaction to the incision, but within three weeks at most you should have recovered. Before then you should avoid raising your hands and subjecting your body to strenuous activities.

How much will the procedure cost you? There is no fixed figure for the cost of breast augmentation, but it should lie between $ 3,000 and $ 12,000. This amount should be able to cover the surgeon's fee, facility fee, implant fee, anesthetic fee and other miscellaneous costs. You should also note that saline implants are cheaper than silicone gel implants.

Which incision procedure is the best? Each of the four breast enhancement techniques has its pros and cons. You should consult with your surgeon on the best method for you.

Dr. Lane F. Smith, MD, Las Vegas Details The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Dr. Lane F. Smith, MD, Las Vegas owns and operates the bustling Smith Plastic Surgery Center is Las Vegas. Dr. Smith is formally trained at Stanford and the world reowned Mayo Clinic. Dr. Smith performs a full range of cosmetic procedures including breastfeeding augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, facelifts, eyelid lifts, buttocks implants and most other cosmetic procedures.

Because of his reputation as an authority in his field, Dr. Smith is frequently asked to speak and lecture at medical conferences. He has written several articles and has been published in many prestigious medical journals. He has also been the recipient of numerous medical awards.

Dr. Smith boasts the unique accomplishment of being one of the few plastic surgeons is the country that is quadruple board certified. His compassionate manner and artistic touch is what his patients feel sets him apart from other plastic surgeons.

Today we are focusing in on the Tummy Tuck. This is a procedure that is popular with post pregnancy women and those who have experienced massive weight loss. We asked Dr. Smith to provide some insight into the procedure and just what it involves.

Dr. Smith, could you explain the Tummy Tuck procedure and exactly how it is performed?

Doctor Smith: A Tummy Tuck procedure is performed by making a low incision in the abdomen and going all the way down through the skin and fat to the layer of the muscle.

At this level we then proceed up all the way up to the bottom of the rib cage lifting up the skin and fat in one big giant flap. The skin and fat is then folded down and the extra is trimmed and removed.

In my case we do a little special procedure where then at this point we liposuction and we take the tummy muscles that have been loosened and tighten the tummy muscles. The final incision or the final scar lies low and is hidden in the bikini line.

Who is the ideal candidate for this procedure? Who might benefit the most?

Dr. Smith: The ideal candidate for the Tummy Tuck are either women who have had children or people male or female who have had massive weight loss. The best candidate is someone who's had children or the individual who has lost a large amount of weight and is left with their loose hanging skin.

Is this an effective way to remove persistent stretch marks in the abdominal area?

Dr. Smith: An actual Tummy Tuck or abdominoplasty is the only way to remove the stretch marks in the abdominal area. People will try to sell you skin crème and claim that lasers will do things but the truth is all that lasers can do is change the color.

If the stretch marks are a little red they can fade them. If they are a little brown they can fade them. But it will not remove them. If you want to remove them you have to cut them out and throw them away. It's the only way we can remove stretch marks.

How much recovery time is required in a procedure such as this?

Dr. Smith: That really depends on the patient. Most patients go back to work after about ten days. Women say it feels a lot like a C Section in terms of the amount of pain and discomfort they have. We ask patients not to exercise three to four weeks after a Tummy Tuck procedure.

You are one of the few surgeons in the country that performs the Tummy Tuck procedure in conjunction with another procedure. Can you expand on that?

Dr. Smith: Most surgeons will not perform a Tummy Tuck and liposuction on the abdomen at the same time. I developed a technique where certain certain perforated blood vessels are spared. This gives additional blood supply to the abdominal flap allowing us to do a liposuction that is safe without killing the skin.

The thought is that if you liposuction that lifted up skin and fat you will kill the skin. That has been true in the past. If these perforator vessels are spared you can liposuction pretty aggressively without that happening.

I presented this at The California Plastic Surgery Society meeting. I turned in a paper to The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal concerning this. We've done more than four to five hundred surgeries this way without ever having the skin killed.

It is a safe procedure but this approach allows us better results and be more aggressive in one surgery. Surgeons in the past would divide this into two surgeries.

What are some of the most common misconceptions you come across regarding the Tummy Tuck procedure?

Dr. Smith: The most common misconception patients have is they want to come in and have a mini-tummy tuck. It's a much smaller incision and most of them are not candidates for that. To be a candidate for a mini-tummy tuck you have to have almost no stretch marks and only a little bit of loose skin.

The other common misconception is in regard to the scar from the surgery. It does leave a long scar along the lower abdomen but if you take really good care of the scar and the surgeon closes it in a very special fashion like we do then the scar can be essentially invisible.

The difference is you can make a trade. The stretch marks are scars. So you're trading thirty or forty stretch marks that do not hide in a bikini for one scar that does hide in a bikini. It's a good trade. Sometimes patients who choose less procedures end up being not as happy.

Doctor Smith, what is the largest consideration a potential patient should make when deciding if the Tummy Tuck procedure is right for them?

Dr. Smith: The largest and most important consideration is that they are generally in good health. We do not want to do a Tummy Tuck on someone who is in poor health. This does not mean that they have to be running or jogging or anything like that but we do not want to do the procedure on someone with a heart condition, for example. We want them to be in generally good health. If they are in good health this is a safe procedure. Actually safer than a C-Section. Again, we do not want to do it without the patient is in reasonably good health.

Thank you, Doctor Smith for providing us with important information for those considering the Tummy Tuck procedure.

Dr. Smith: You're very welcome.
